Porterville Evangelical Free Church - Ministries

Steve and Liz Spellman have served with the Evangelical Free Church in Brazil since 1989. It has been in Brazil that all 3 of their girls have been born. Alessandra was born in 1989 (a mere 2 months after her parents arrived in the country), with Becca coming along in 1991 and Kayla following suit in 1993.

Our ministry is somewhat varied. Our original goal in moving to Brazil was to help the Evangelical Free Church of Brazil establish a network of churches in the area around Rio de Janeiro. At the time the EFC-Brazil had quite a number of churches in the south of Brazil but just couldn't find anyone to crack the "nut" in Rio de Janeiro. You have to understand that Rio is kind of like Las Vegas in the eyes of Brazilians. Most think it's a glamorous place but would NEVER move there, much less plant a church there. In addition to church planting, Steve and Liz also work in leadership development and coordinate the ministries of short term teams coming from the US. Currently in Rio we have 2 churches planted (and growing!) with a third suburb targeted for the next 2 years.

Missionary Visit: We had a wonderful visit with Steve, Liz and the girls. All those that went to Brazil in 2003 were amazed at how Becca and Kayla had grown. Steve has asked that as we pray for them to pray that God will send harvesters to their churches in Rio.
